The Sunday Night Club

There's something about a Sunday. It's the one day of the week that seems to be designed with relaxation in mind. For me, there is something else about a Sunday, and which makes it a day to look forward to - The Sunday Night Club.

Saturdays are photography day - jump in the car, either alone or with some other photographers; go somewhere and make images. Spend the time between getting home and Sunday afternoon working on the images, bringing out the very best in them; and then in the evening, present them at The Sunday Night Club.

Simple, to quote a meerkat.

We email the finished images around a group of us - some are members of our Camera Club, others are not - and then wait for the feedback. You won't be surprised that some of the images are just incredible. But incredible images isn't really the point. I've said before that photography is all about the sharing of the image. There is little point in making an image that no-one will ever see. And The Sunday Night Club is a great way to do that.

That sharing of the image makes the early rise, the long day and all the post-processing worthwhile. And the feedback can be a good spur to do better next time, to capture a more alluring and captivating image. It is also a good way of finding out about new locations.

My recent trips to Seamills are a case in point; thanks to The Sunday Night Club, I discovered this unspoilt little beach and there, I discovered the boat wreck which has enthralled me for the last two weeks.

This weekend, others in the group visited the same location and also photographed the boat - I loved seeing what others had done with the same subject, which was inspiring and enabled me to compare my own images. And I have seen other locations which I have not yet visited, but will do.

So thanks to all the guys in The Sunday Night Club - keep those images coming!
