Seeing With New Eyes
I've previously written about Gullane Bents, on the east coast of Scotland, and today I went back there for another visit at the invitation of a friend who wanted to see the place.
My intention today, as it often is when revisiting a familiar place, was to try and see with new eyes - to capture something of the place I didn't capture before, to make original images.
Arriving there before dawn, a brisk walk followed, to get to a suitable place to wait for the dawn light to break through. And it did so beautifully, illuminating the top of a very fluffy cloud before scattering its rose coloured light across the land.
After a series of shots to capture the first light of the day, the next few hours were spent wandering along the extensive coastline and looking for something new or interesting to photograph.
Gullane always offers plenty of photo opportunities and today was no different. Walking further along the coast than I have done before, there were plenty of new things to see, and a few new bays and coves to explore.
I found a few fishing nets scattered about the place and partially buried by the sands, and these provided endless possibilities, inclduing a few monochrome shots, such as the one here.
In one of the coves, the waves had left amazing patterns and scupltures in the sand, and the abstract image of this ended up as one of my favourites of the day.
